internet settings
First let me start by explicitly recommending against the use of Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has many issues that we get calls about, and they are problems inherent to using Internet Explorer. It does not follow standard, and has many insecurities that can be very detrimental to the system and services used.Although mptelco offers you freedom of choice, a suggestion is to use anything else. Anything at all. Firefox is one of the most powerful browsers out there and it is absolutely free, fully functional, and has many security enhancements over Internet Explorer.
In Windows, most settings can be accessed by the control panel. Click start, and if the control panel option isn't directly in the start menu, then click settings, then click control panel. We are looking for the Internet Options icon. Once you find it and open Internet Options, click the connection tab. From here you can easily setup your system to connect to dsl. Just click the button that says "Never dial a connection." Next, click the "LAN Settings" button at the bottom, and check the box that reads "Automatically detect settings". Then click "OK" and then click the "Apply" button, then the "OK" button. Now we need to check your network settings. You should still have the control panel window still open and you should be able to open the Network Connections setting. If you don't have this, you probably have Windows Melenium or Windows 98 and you should already be on the internet. Once it is opened, right click on the Local Area Connection icon and click properties. Next, click on the Internet Protocol in the white box (do not uncheck it!!) and then click properties just below it. Mptelco uses dhcp which means everything is completely automatic. So just make sure the settings are set to automatically obtain the information, and click "OK". Then click "OK" on the properties box. Your Internet should work now. If it does't, you may want to check the dsl troubleshooting page.
In Macintosh you probably are already configured, but I can give you a quick checklist to run through. If you are using OSX, then not only am I jealous, but it is very easy to configure. You simply need to click the Apple logo in the top left hand side of your screen, and bring up system preferences. Click network, then click on your build in ethernet connection. From here you will want to be on the "TCP/IP" tab and click the dropdown box by "Configure IPv4:" and select "Using DHCP". Sometimes you need to click that "Renew DHCP Lease" button a few times, and you should be good to go.
If you are using linux, then just make sure you are setup to use dhcp. This varies for each distribution, so you will likely have to consult your distros documentation. An easy thing to try is to enter dhcpcd eth0 (or whatever your ethernet device is) with the proper permissions, and then check with ifconfig. If you use linux, you probably already know these things.
